Consumers are not pleased with Customer service and Diversity of Products or Services. The price level of this organization is high according to consumer reviews.
Taxes
Waiting for an answer on my free tax preparer sent all the information and called many times and still no email back or no call back. Very disappointing.

The 212 van never showed up at Tiverton Library because of an accident. The united way of Rhode island never contacted the library that day

Very unprofessional they held the call the for 30 minutes in silence intentionally after I waited 25 minutes for someone to pick the call up this was done repeatedly and initially will drop my call over and over 10 times because the people who are working at this company doesn't want to do their job they have too much animosity and hatred and jealousy towards innocent bystanders who contact these companies for help or resources it's sad that these calls are recorded and these employees are not intimidated or worried about anyone finding out how they treat people who use 2111 United Way for help do unto others as you would have them to do unto you Karma will come back in vengeance for these people who are going out their way to be disrespectful hatred animosity towards innocent bystanders
211 united way van didn't show at destination
It took a while but the reason the 211 van didn't show at the library was said vehicle accident. When I got back to the tiverton library, a librarian showed me a booklet.
That could help describe locations I could go to. For help with determining if I was eligible for any additional benefits from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island. Or the State department department of Human Services? I went to the Tiverton Seniors center for help.

Very very incompetent
I just talked to 2 people there today. One person twisted my words and lied about my eligibility to make her job easier.
The other one was just rude and very ignorant. However there was someone last night that did her job and was very good and efficient.
Very broken system.
Each person gives you different and bad information. Be very careful.

211 united way van didn't show at destination
It's Simple. A scheduled 211 United way Van did Not show up at a schedule and Planned time.
At a specific planned time. Last Friday the second Friaday of the Month. According to the Tiverton Rhode Island Main Public Library, the van is supposed to arrive at 9:30 am. I was there last Friday on time.
And waited over an hour to show. According to the librarian at the desk. Who was on duty to serv the public that day. The library didn't know either?
I am just complaining now about bad communications.
Between the 211 Van. And the Tiverton Library.

I scheduled Lyft service to pick up and drop off my grandson through the united way. The lyft was a no show to get my grandson to work.My grandson canceled the ride, so the pick service from his work was canceled also.
Was united way trying to get my grandson fired from his job? or was it lyft? I called them twice and all they could say is my grandson would not get picked up from his job. The second representative(Brook) hung up on me because I would not allow her to over- talk me, saying they are courtesy rides.
If she had come up with a solution where it would not happen again, I wouldn't be doing this review. By the way, my grandson pays taxes and he deserves these two or three limited rides.

I had a terrible experience with the property management that goes by the name of Judi Foster she was very rude unprofessional said very slander-ish things about me and tried to tarnish my reputation she wasn't a very good property manager at all or a good person plus the front desk clerk Anah Hernandez was very rude and has also made up false Statements .United way needs to Do Better and find better the people you have there are low down and dirty. It's a shame that you have these type of people in this organization and you guys are supposed to be helpful to the community but you got people that are not disability friendly over here the list goes on how very low down these people have done me

Their mission statement is all about helping the community thrive but they do nothing of the sort.
I called and asked if the local farmer's market (put on by a volunteer committee in the community) could put up a sign on their lawn for one day a week to help let folks know the market was happening that day...and was told no. I was told no because they are only allowing those who partner with them to put signs out.
The Farmer's Market is put on FOR the community by the community and helps local farmers and artisans make a living. But I guess that doesn't qualify helping the community thrive.
Rude and petty. They are not for the community just the $$$

Why does United Way exist?
I work with several nonprofits in Dallas Metro area. While United Way Metro Dallas has ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS tied up in an endowment fund, they have slashed non-profit organizations during this granting cycle by 30%, 75% and some well executing programs NOTHING.
All without warning ... where is the community partnership? UWMD staff gave NO heads up for these organizations who survived COVID, were the ones on the FRONTLNE serving people, to prepare for this massive budget hit.
To the companies who blackmail their employees to donate to UW - shame on you. Money could go so much further in today's environment if funds were given directly.
Long gone are the days when people needed information on what nonprofits were good, now we have Guidestar.org.
To the Board of United Way Metro Dallas - who is looking at the books?
What is the % of funds raised and funds actually distributed each year? You force the nonprofits to report on so many metrics, why isn't your board holding YOU accountable?

Customer service is very Rude
I phoned in to ask if they were open on Thursday after I had just driven up there and no one was there, the online information stated the hours, and it only said not open on Saturday and Sunday. I phoned in and reached a very nasty female.
I am so tired of these rude customer service representatives. This looks bad and will stop my support for this company in the future and will make me pass it on.

Not Thriving
From the United Way website:

United Way THRIVE helps families build stronger financial futures by acquiring skills and education, obtaining better jobs, developing good financial habits and building savings."
This has not been my experience.
I went to my local United Way last year because I was struggling at $12 and hour to keep a roof over my head. I was earning too much for most assistance, but not enough to meet emergencies (at that salary there's always an emergency) or save, or meet my student loan obligations. I was told by the financial counselor that I needed to earn more money (really?) and later by the employment coach that $12 an hour was a "great, really good" salary, and that I should respond to my lack of reliable transportation by renting a car at $400 a month. They both continued by offering one unworkable solution after another, using poor math (they added and dropped zeroes) in 'helping' me with my budget.
There's lots more evidence that they weren't even listening to me most of the time and when they were they demonstrated no real reason that they even deserved jobs.
I called and complained. I followed up with several emails. The program is still, for me, nothing it claims to be.
I've decided to take what energy I have and just continue to try to do things on my own. They were useless in terms of offering a real path to substantive improvement.
If I do end up on the street it would be better than living with their doe eyed, clueless stares and pointless non-advice. The experience was an almost complete waste of my time and other limited resources. I say almost because I at least learned something.
Someday, when I do get a good job, you can be sure I will never donate a cent to them. They wouldn't know what to do with it anyway.

Disappointed with the United Way
My husband works for a company that supports the United Way - it is a strong recommendation that a portion of their bonus support the community and this company has partnered with United Way. Due to the fact we do not like the United Way for many reasons, we chose to check the box to allow United Way to send our donation/contribution directly to a charity of our choice.
SIX months later and numerous phone calls to find out why the Hoovers Hause has NOT received our donation/contribution - we have now heard that our donation/contribution will be divided by the United Way and paid in quarterly installments (the following year) AND after they take a fee!
So the Hoovers Hause have NOT received money donated to them by us in 2018 and supposedly they will begin receiving quarterly payments through-out 2019 (it's April and they have not seen one yet).
Had we not followed up, the Hoovers Haus would have never seen the money and it's a possibility they never will.
Nice job United Way - convincing LARGE organizations to work with you - promising you will forward the donations, holding the money and then taking an additional fee and POSSIBLY donating some to the charity that the employee dictated their money to be sent to.
FRAUD at its best.
